Over the years, schools, hospitals and other facilities acquire a substantial library of instructional, informational and entertainment programs on video tapes and DVDs. To view a program from this library, a user must request delivery of the video tape or DVD along with a VCR or DVD player at a chosen time and place. This process is troublesome, time consuming and costly. A media retrieval system stores all of the programs on a central computer server for easy, electronic retrieval from any classroom, patient room or other location. In so doing, a media retrieval system eliminates the need to physically distribute video tapes or DVDs and also eliminates the need for multiple VCRs or DVD players and media carts.
